01

Identify the source and expected file

Read the surrounding explanation and inspect the destination when possible. A filename can suggest a document without proving what the file contains, and some systems hide extensions. Treat an unexpected installer or compressed archive differently from an article you expected to read in the browser.

02

Take warnings seriously

Browser and operating-system warnings should not be dismissed solely because the page tells you they are normal. A missing warning is not a guarantee of safety either. If the source or purpose is unclear, stop the download instead of installing additional software to inspect an unfamiliar package.

03

Keep downloaded material visible

Use a known download folder and check what arrived before opening it. On shared devices, documents may remain available to the next person even after you close the browser. This publication’s reading guides do not require installing an app, browser extension or separate access package.

MERITKING GİRİŞ / A quick checklist

A quick checklist

  • Confirm the source and expected file type before downloading.
  • Do not run an unexplained installer to read an article.
  • Review files left in the download folder on shared devices.
